About Us

Meet Sean Tate, Owner

I founded Tate Public Affairs in January 2020 after serving as VP of Public Policy and Business Development since 2013.  An (almost) lifelong Oregonian, I represent my clients’ business and policy interests wherever needed, building partnerships and working towards positive outcomes.

I am active in healthcare, education, and business development policy circles, and enjoy good, no-nonsense relationships with legislators, legislative leadership, staff, and colleagues from all policy perspectives.

Prior to working in public affairs, I spent more than 20 years in business development, marketing, and sales management in the print media industry in Oregon and Montana. I am an experienced marketer and consensus-builder, and I like to take an inside-out approach to understanding client issues.

I serve on the board of the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and the Albany-Millersburg Economic Development Corporation.  As a registered lobbyist, my primary areas of policy focus are healthcare, business and workforce development, economic recovery, and higher education.

I live in Lebanon and engage in many of Oregon’s recreational opportunities including road and mountain biking, fly fishing, hiking and camping.

What We Do, and How We Do It

Public Affairs Engagement

Your Public Affairs objectives are unique, and so is our approach. We work closely with our partners to understand their political/organizational profile and key issues from the inside out, including all key perspectives. By truly partnering to learn issues from all sides and communicating effectively with policymakers and stakeholders, we get things done.

Engagement for an organization can take many forms, depending on your needs and objectives. A few examples in no particular order:

  • Relevant policy monitoring before, during and after session
  • Direct legislative engagement on your key policy issues
  • Useful reporting and analysis of your industry/policy nexus
  • Organizational Public Affairs strategy development
  • Policymaker & Client education and process exposure
  • Policy  development/bill management through the full legislative process and beyond (there is a beyond...)
  • Institutional SME team development and engagement

Review, Analysis, and Strategy Development

Understanding your profile or "where you stand in the capitol" is an important - and often neglected - step in effective public affairs engagement. We prioritize this - understanding key player perspectives on issues and entities is critical to developing strategies that can help provide the outcomes you are looking for.

Economic Development & Outreach Consulting

As a recovering newspaper sales manager, I am energized by community-level economic development and the impacts of local efforts to attract businesses that support rural communities.  We have years of experience developing and executing targeted outreach strategies in the public and private sectors, from statewide campaign presentations to managing targeted economic development projects for municipalities.

Community Involvement

We live here, we love it, and we love what we do so we stay involved in our local communities through volunteer service, our Partner Organizations, and memberships in professional organizations:

  • Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

  • Albany Millersburg Economic Development Corporation (AMEDEC) Board of Directors

  • Oregon Capitol Club Member
